Turn Your Home Into A Winter Wonderland

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but for many it’s also the busiest. In between gift buying, preparing food and social occasions we still need to find the time to transform our homes into a wintry wonderland. It’s the little touches accessories, table decorations and the subtle festive hints that divide the tacky and tasteless from the festive and fabulous. Here’s my advice on how to create beautiful, warm and inviting festive interiors.

2017 saw a big Scandi influence in the world of interiors for it’s contemporary feel and celebration of simplicity and style. Decorate your home this year with a Scandi inspired theme using straightforward monochromes, natural materials, and always opt for quality rather than quantity. A neutral colour palette gives a contemporary Scandi feel – showing that you don’t need to stick to reds and greens for a Christmas scheme and that winter whites work just as well.

There’s nothing quite like fresh foliage to get you in the festive spirit, plus a fun trip out for the whole family collecting pine cones, berries, holly, ivy and so much more. You can use them as table decorations, wreaths or scattered around the house adding both fragrance and colour.

Christmas isn’t Christmas without the twinkle of fairy lights and can be used pretty much anywhere, try low battery powered ones to avoid lots of loose wires being the main focal point and not the gentle twinkle of a timeless Christmas favourite!

It’s amazing what a lick of paint can do to completely revive a room, we all know Christmas is the time when we open our door to lots of visitors so if you want a quick and inexpensive way to get your house ready how about a coat of paint? We thoroughly recommend Zoffany paints there’s 156 colours to choose from providing exceptional coverage and outstanding depth of colour.

It’s very tempting to go to tinsel town and use a selection of old decorations mixed with a few new and not take into consideration a colour palette before adding to your existing decorations have a look at what colours you have already and stick to a combination of complimenting tones. Having 15 different colours is complete overkill and you don’t need to stick to the traditional green and red think outside the box, whites and golds are classy and very festive without looking like Santa’s grotto.

Lighting is key to creating a cosy ambience with those cold and dark Winter nights are here so lighting is key to provide a warm and inviting environment. There are so many ways to bring light into your home don’t just consider table lamps consider ceiling lights, wall lights and floor, all forms of lighting will help to create an atmospheric home with fantastic mood lighting to add points of interest.

Layer up the cosiness with woollen blankets and cushions for fireside armchairs. Keeping additional throws close to hand in baskets or blanket boxes will allow your guests to snuggle up on sofas, armchairs and window seats without having to ask.
Bring in additional seating to make your guests feel at home in the living room. Nothing is more Christmassy than gathering around a roaring fire, surrounded by family and friends. Create a sociable space with a ring of seating centred around a hearth rug and coffee table.

Mix-and-match armchairs and sofas create a relaxed rather than a formal feel, perfect for cosy chats.

Make your front door a focal point add two matching ornaments such as shrubs or flower pots to make a symmetrical frame around the front door, making the outside of your property feel extra special at Christmas.
