A TASTE OF THE EXOTIC

There’s no denying it any longer – those dark mornings are here to stay and winter is definitely upon us! So when it comes to updating your home, colour and vibrancy are the way to go. This month we’re looking at the trend for all things exotic. Tropical prints, vivid colours and jungle patterns are just the ticket to lift your spirits on a drizzly November morning!

Tropical trends

Do you ever think back to sunny holidays to warm yourself up on a chilly day? Well, a tropical wallpaper or fabric can have exactly the same effect by bringing a flash of cheerful warmth to your home. We particularly love Matthew Williamson’s new Deya collection which is named after the Mallorcan village where the flamboyant designer has a home. He spends several months of the year there, and that gorgeous Mediterranean vibe is clear to see in these vibrant patterns featuring Mediterranean flowers, fruits and birds. Valldemossa (£64 per metre) is an explosion of large tropical flowers and ferns. It would be the perfect choice for recovering a chair or sofa to give it a vibrant new lease of life. Also in this collection is a design called Talavera which features cheerful swathes of brightly-coloured thistles, birds and exotic fruit (£76 per roll for wallpaper). Guaranteed to brighten up even the darkest corner of your home!

Animal magic

In another nod to far-flung climes, jungle motifs featuring exotic animals are proving hugely popular this season. Think tigers, lions and cheeky monkeys! Cole & Son’s Savuti wallpaper has been named after one of Africa’s most beautiful and well-known national parks. The Savuti in Botswana is home to a host of brightly coloured animals, and this wallpaper pays homage to the park as baboons, birds and chameleons happily cavort across the walls! It comes in seven distinctive colourways and costs £90 per roll. Clarke & Clarke’s Lemur Jungle is another wonderfully characterful print featuring a cute lemur nestling under an exotic palm tree. It represents amazing value for money with the wallpaper costing just £49 per roll and the fabric in this range retailing for £39 per metre.

Pineapple power

The pineapple motif is here to stay as far as interiors are concerned this season. This fun fruit can be found in designs such as Matthew Williamson’s Ananas which features stripes of flower-filled pineapples. Curtains or cushions made up in this fabric (£64 per metre) would give an instant blast of colourful cheer to any room. Our rustic gold pineapple candlesticks are also the perfect way to pick up on the tropical trend. At just £18 each, they’re a great value way to update your home. They also make the perfect Christmas gift for friends or family!
