As we wave goodbye to our Great British Summer it’s time to start making preparations for the changing of the seasons by making your home warm and cosy ready for those cold nights in.
Here’s our guide on how to to achieve perfect autumnal interiors:
Tweeds and wool’s like these rugged highland fabrics are a quintessential part of the autumn home and bring an element of cosiness and texture alongside a palette of rich hues – from heathery purples to rich, rusty reds. These shades work well alongside robust, earthy ceramics and are set off perfectly by the introduction of purples and deep reds.
Bring the outside in with displays of autumnal fruits and foliage gathered on woodland walks to create magical displays that will last well at this time of year. Bowls filled with pine cones or vases of branches laden with sloes from the blackthorn, a common hedgerow shrub lend more seasonal style while turning autumn leaves make an attractive accent scattered on a dining table.
To reflect the seasons indoors choose warm natural woods and partner with soft ochre yellow walls to which you can add a strong textural element with woven rush matting.
A throw and some textured cushions can go a long way to create a seasonal feel. For a welcoming home with autumnal warmth that is relaxed and eclectic, add in some accents of warm floral fabrics, natural wood accessories or firewood in a basket.
Velvet has been a massive hit this year because of it durability and sumptuous feel and look, faux fur throws and a matching velvet sofa take coziness to a whole new level for a winter wonderland. If you don’t fancy a sofa in velvet opt for cushions and choose from colours that are warm and welcoming such as burnt oranges, deep cranberry or soft chestnut.
Candles, candles and more candles create the impression of warm nights in and a relaxing homely atmosphere, go for all different shapes and sizes and place them around your home giving you light and a beautifully smelling home.
A romantic meal doesn’t have to be in the dining room place a small table next to a warm fire for an intimate dinner for two.
Beautiful organic ceramics, jute rugs, woven lampshades and linen tablecloths it’s all about natural elements being used together. The colour palette ranges from off whites, soft creams and a spectrum of greys that leads up from the palest tone to dark slate.
If dark tones aren’t your thing, then opt for this super pretty millennial pink. It’s mood-enhancing, goes with everything, and will work in any room. Team it with pastel tones of sky blue and smoky grey, clear glass vases and a pop of vibrant cerise to give the look a zing of brightness.
